The Future Classics Show Shines a Spotlight on the Next Generation of Classic Cars From 1975 Onward

For many years, car shows have been the exclusive domain of those who think that music, fashion, and automotive design peaked in the fifties and early sixties. Unless you love crybaby dolls, fake plastic food on diner trays, and The Beach Boys played at 140dB, your average weekend car show is kind of a boring place. Seen one, you’ve seen ’em all. Indeed, most of us have had the unfortunate experience of being turned away from a car show with an age cutoff because our cars are “too new.”

ClassicCars.com is hoping to turn things around and make car shows fun for everybody. So they’re sponsoring the second annual Future Classics Car Show in Scottsdale, Arizona this Monday. True to its name, it’s a show designed to shed light on the next generation of automotive icons. In a bold move, the show has a reverse age cutoff: no pre-1975 cars, please.

Last year, the show drew a diverse crowd of over 100 American, Japanese, and European cars to its location in North Phoenix. In fact, the show was so popular that the organizers had to move to a larger venue for this year’s show. It’s a good sign that the car hobby is alive and well, and growing every year.

Several awards will be given out, including awards for Best Import, Best Domestic, and Best Euro 1975-1994 / 1995-2005. There’s an Instant Classic award for 2006 and up cars. There are sponsored awards. There’s a “Diamond in the Rough” award for project cars. Of course there will be a Best in Show award. And there’s also a special award for the featured marque. This year that’s Ford. So you know what that means, Mustang owners: make us proud!

The show takes place Monday, January 16, 2017 from 4:00 to 9:00 pm at the Scottsdale Quarter rooftop parking deck. For more information, contact the organizers at futureclassics@classiccars.com.
