1970 Mustang Boss 429

No matter which Mustang gen is your favorite, it’s hard to top a loaded, 48k-mile, 1970 Boss 429.

In the vast world of the Mustang, everyone has their own favorite. Some of us grew up in the ’60s and ’70s coveting the original iterations of the pony car. Others drove a Fox Body in high school and sought to relive that experience today. The same can be said for every generation since, of course. But no matter which Mustang gen is your favorite, it’s pretty easy to agree that the mighty Boss 429 might just be the ultimate version of Ford’s legendary pony car.

Especially when you’re talking about an immaculately restored Grabber Blue Boss 429 like this one currently up for grabs at Bring a Trailer. Personally, we can’t think of a more perfect car to place atop our imaginary Mustang Mountain. Nothing is as iconic or more representative of Ford’s genius creation than this. It’s the right color, the right style, and it packs one seriously ridiculous powerplant.

Most know the story behind the existence of the Boss 429, of course. Ford wanted to dominate NASCAR at the time, so it needed to build a few street-going cars with its mighty Hemi V8 to satisfy homologation rules. Between 1969 and 1970, it produced only 1,358 of these amazing machines. Today, they’re among the most highly coveted muscle cars ever produced.

This particular example is well-optioned, too. It was ordered with the Competition Suspension, Drag Pack, front disc brakes, power steering and brakes, 3.91 Traction-Lok rear end, and a tach. It’s traveled just 48k miles over the years, and has been refurbished to a pretty impeccable condition. And it comes with loads of documentation, including a full Deluxe Marti Report.

To put it quite simply, Mustangs don’t get much better than this. This stunning Boss 429 is guaranteed to make any pony car fan green with envy, no matter what your personal preference might be.
