Ford has some breaking news out of SEMA this week, with the announcement of the GT4 spec Mustang road race car. Spurred on by the success of the GT350R-C, Ford’s own version features an FiA approved roll-cage, race data acquisition system, and full-racing pneumatic paddle shift gearbox from Holinger.

It’s aimed to be a globally-successful racer, with eligibility in IMSA, Pirelli World Challenge, and the European GT4 series. Ensuring competitiveness, it uses a GT4-specific 5.2-liter V8, which was developed with Roush. In terms of chassis dynamics, those were honed through the extensive knowledge of Multimatic Motorsports. Control to the ground is sent through Forgeline wheels, which house 6-piston Brembo calipers up front. And aerodynamics are dealt with by a wing with technology and features borrowed from the Ford GT program.

As it sits, the new Mustang GT4 is pretty much a turn-key (or likely flip switch) race car that you can buy and go straight out to win races. It also marks a return to privateer support from Ford, which will be welcomed by racers and race fans world-wide.
