Mustang GT Super-Sleeper Is Hiding More than 1,500 Horsepower

By -

It looks like a modified Shelby GT500, but in reality it’s a 200-MPH missile ready to wreak havoc on its competition.

When you head out to a top speed event like the one depicted in this package from 1320Video, you expect to see a lot of exotics, a bunch of Corvettes, and maybe a few Mustangs. Most of the time, however, the Mustangs are getting it handed to them by more aerodynamic shapes with sometimes even a bit less horsepower. The frontal area of a Mustang isn’t exactly conducive to such high speeds, after all. That is, unless you brutally push the air aside with more horsepower.

This Mustang looks basically like a mildly modified Mustang GT500, so the folks at the event didn’t expect big numbers. After the car set a 185 mile per hour first run, the crowd had their collective socks knocked off. The 1320 crew had to know more about the car and what sat under the hood.

When they asked the owner how much power his car made, he answered with a surprisingly lax “Uh, we dyno’d at 1507”. When the hood was opened up, the secrets were given away as a pair of giant turbochargers were exposed, and as the owner says, “That’s what it takes, is a lot of boost”.

“The track was a little slick, and I drove it that time,” he says with a smile across his face. The Mustang did have a noticeable wheel spin in the video, but once it got going straight, it seemed to be a rather polite affair, you know, for a car with 1500 horsepower under the hood. While the car was only ultimately capable of turning in a 191 MPH run, it shows potential for more, and has certainly won our hearts. But what do you think of this big-power GT500 clone? Does your ‘Stang have what it takes to beat it? Give us your take here in the forums.
