Mustang Runs Deep into the 7s with Monstrous Twin-turbo Coyote

By -

Seven-second pony makes nearly 2,000 crank horsepower and uses a lot more stock parts than you think.

There’s something crazy-satisfying about watching the front end of a Mustang reach for the sky at a drag strip. It’s even more exciting when the car looks like it’s ready to go to the grocery store. Brett Lasala‘s Mustang, dubbed “Snot Rocket,” is about as “streetcar” as a seven-second drag build can get. It still has all the factory body panels, air conditioning, powered windows, all factory glass, a factory 8.8 rear end housing, and the stock interior (aside from the Recaro seats). The racing weight of 3,500 pounds did not stop this monster from ripping down the Texas2K strip in 7.33 seconds at 187 mph.

As outlined in a recent That Racing Channel video, Lasala purchased this 2013 GT used in 2014 and has spent the past five years turning it into the beast it currently is. Remarkably, the engine still uses the stock crankshaft and head castings, though it has upgraded valves and valve springs. The sleeved Coyote block is built with Manley Performance connecting rods, Diamond Racing pistons, and a custom ground cam profile.

It features a custom built twin-turbo kit running twin Precision 64s force-feeding the Plazmaman billet intake manifold. On a mind-blowing 35 PSI, the car made 1,675 horsepower at the wheels, meaning it is nearing 2,000 crank horsepower. An astounding number for a vehicle that is driven on the street frequently, but evidently not enough, as Lasala plans on turning up the boost in the future.

In 2018, the car set the ET record for the 6R80 transmission and still holds it to this day with a 7.70s pass at 182 mph. The 6R80 was built by Lasala at MSRacing using their billet planetary gear. However, as of this year, it is no longer running that setup.

“This year I decided to put a PTC Powerglide in the car to see how deep into the 7s the Snot Rocket would go,” said Lasala. “The first outing was at Texas2K and was a huge success. We ended up in the finals with a new personal best ET: 7.33 at 187.”

There are plenty of Mustang drag cars out there, but this one is undoubtedly one you’ll want to keep an eye on. Not that you could easily miss its paint scheme. It certainly seems like Lasala has zero intention of slowing down with this car after his current personal best. One thing is for sure: If you see “Snot Rocket” on the streets, it’s likely in your best interest not to tempt him.
