New Old Stock spark plug wires on eBay, just $5,750!

These eBay-listed NOS bits might be the most expensive spark plug wires in the world.

Sometimes, you just see something so ridiculous that you have to immediately share it with someone else. That’s exactly what happened with these spark plug wires on eBay.

Now, you might be asking yourself, what’s so special about spark plug wires? They conduct electricity and help thousand of tiny little explosions happen in your engine every minute. They’re a maintenance item; when they wear out, you replace them. Maybe thirty bucks, maybe about twice that if you get some really fancy “high performance” ones.

Well, how about paying nearly six thousand dollars for a set? That’s right, six grand! This set of spark plug wires, found on eBay, are NOS (new old stock) Autolite spark plug wires for the legendary Boss 429 Mustang of 1969 & 1970. They carry a Buy it Now price of $5,750.

Due to the sheer size of the engine, legend has it that replacing the spark plugs in a Boss 429 was an engine-out service. That may be true and if it was, that would mean that replacing the plug wires themselves wouldn’t be your average job, either.

Usually, jobs like that cost far more in labor than in parts. We get the feeling that that’s not the case here. These Autolite plug wires have been sitting on a shelf collecting dust for nearly fifty years. Sold by a Boss 429 specialist from way back in the day, they were apparently a normal stock item when the cars were new.

With values of those rare Boss 429s skyrocketing, it stands to reason that the value of parts would increase as well. That said, we’d have a hard time justifying the cost of these wires. If you just have to have that perfect set of factory-correct date-coded plug wires for your white-glove and chalk-mark restoration, this is your only option.
