Social Media Helps Track Down Stolen Classic Mustang

Facebook post garners more than 34,000 shares when Oregon man’s vintage car is stolen.

It’s pretty safe to say that Dave Marsland counts himself as a fan of Facebook.

Though, he likely wishes that the response on social media was a little faster when his ’66 Mustang was stolen from his garage on the Fourth of July. The thieves managed to do a fair amount of damage to his vintage ‘Stang. But it was recovered after his son, Jordan, posted about the theft on Facebook, asking people to help locate the car.

According to the Statesman Journal, the front panels of the Mustang were sheared from the frame, and the fenders and rear bumper were stripped. The vintage car’s steering wheel was also damaged during the theft. Marsland says that stems from the vehicle being hot-wired when it was stolen.

Marsland, who was restoring the Mustang with his mechanic, purchased the car in 2002. He says the value was estimated at $25,000 before it was stolen. Now he’ll be forced to spend even more money bringing it back to its previous condition (pictured here).

Still, the entire ordeal could have been far worse had it not been for over 34,000 shares the Mustang garnered on Facebook after his son posted about the theft. The car was eventually recovered by police a few days later after someone reported seeing the car.

For now, Marsland says he’s going to take a break from restoring the car. But hopefully it won’t be long before he’s back at it, bringing his classic back up to par. After all, you can’t keep a Mustang fan away from his true love for long.
