Dana Mecum’s collector car auctions have revolutionized how people

weekend. While we can expect the Mustang to be one of the most
plentiful models in Monterey, there are a handful of Mustangs that truly
stand out in any crowd – even at Dana Mecum’s famous collector’s
auctions.
5. 1965 Mustang Restomod, Lot #F24
Combining the stunning looks of the original Ford Mustang in 1965 with
modern day performance, this gorgeous Fastback uses a 4.6L SVT V8 topped
by a Vortech supercharger to combine the best of both automotive
worlds.
4. The 1966 Shelby Mustang GT350 Race Car, Lot #S109
The Shelby GT350 Mustang was the original pony car racer and this
beautifully restored ’66 GT350 is nice enough to show, but its fully
built to race. It is built to compete in vintage racing events and over
the past few years, this Shelby GT350 has taken multiple class
victories around the country.
3. The 1970 Mustang Boss 302, Lot #S79
The vintage Boss Mustangs have inspired enthusiasts since Larry Shinoda
created them in the late 1960s, but with the recent rebirth of the Boss
302, the interest in the original Boss 302 has skyrocketed. This
particular Boss 302 is packed full of high performance goodies like a
4.30 Detroit Locker rearend and a factory front mounted oil cooler-only
– making this Boss one of just 254 configured this way in 1970.
2. The 2012 Mustang Boss 302, Lot #F163
The 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 is being heralded as the best handling
factory built Mustang of all time. While the 2012 Boss 302 is fully
street legal, the modifications made to these limited edition Mustangs
allow them to be just as comfortable on the race track as they are on
the open road.
1. The 1968 Mustang Fastback – Eleanor, Lot #S143
Arguably the most recognizable custom car of all time, the 1968 Mustang
Fastback-turned-Eleanor gained recognition in the movie Gone in 60
Seconds. This super-sharp, high performance Mustang roared across the
silver screen, right into the heart of Mustang lovers around the world
and it has become one of the most common restoration and modification
goals of vintage Mustang owners as “Eleanor Mustangs” have become the
grand daddy of all restomodded Mustangs.
Unfortunately, the Mecum auctions only go to so many locations so it
might be hard for some enthusiasts to make the trip to one of the large
venues around the country but with the growing popularity of these high
profile auto auctions, Discover HD Theater broadcasts portions of the
auctions on television and you can catch the 2011 Mecum Monterey auction
LIVE on Thursday from 3-7 PM, Friday from 1-5 PM and Saturday from 1-5
PM.
