2016 Camaro Mustang

With the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro revving up for its official street debut, there will undoubtedly be a lot of talk about how it measures up to the new Mustang.

Sure, we know that the new Chevy doesn’t stand a chance of winning many fans over here, but there will certainly be a lot of other people comparing the two new pony cars. That’s why we find USA Today‘s recent side-by-side comparison, which gives the new Camaro the edge in two of the three model categories, pretty interesting.

Have a look at their findings:

BASE MODEL:
2-liter four-cylinder turbo Camaro vs base 3.7-liter V-6 Mustang
Camaro: 275 horsepower, 295 lb-ft of torque, 3,339 lbs curb weight (automatic transmission); 12.1 pounds per horsepower
Mustang: 300 hp, 280 lb-ft; 3,520 lbs. (auto); 11.7 lbs/hp
Advantage: Mustang

MID-RANGE:
3.6-liter V-6 Camaro versus 2.-3-liter turbo four-cylinder Mustang
Camaro: 335 hp, 284 lb-ft, 3,435 lbs. (auto); 10.3 lbs/hp
Mustang: 310 hp, 320 lb-ft, 3,524 lbs (auto); 11.3 lbs/hp
Advantage: Camaro

V-8s
Camaro: 455 hp, 455 lb-ft, 3,685 lbs (manual); 8.1 lbs/hp
Mustang: 435 hp, 400 lb-ft, 3,705 (manual); 8.5 lbs/hp
Advantage: Camaro

Of course, the comparison is no indication of which car is the better performer of the two, or which is the most striking from a design perspective. That, my friends, probably comes down to a matter of personal preference. And we know where your loyalties lie.
