Watch 2020 Mustang GT500 Blast up Goodwood’s Hill in the U.K.
Vaughn Gittin Jr. scores major style points as he gets sideways and extra loud in a GT500 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
There’s no denying the awesomeness that is the 2020 Ford Mustang GT500. With 760 raging horsepower and looks that kill, the latest ultimate Mustang is on everybody’s wish list. Well, almost everybody. Sadly, many of us either can’t afford one or simply don’t want to pay exorbitant dealer markups. Thus, we’re left reveling in the tidbits of awesomeness Ford blesses us with. The latest? This clip of pro drifter Vaughn Gittin Jr. piloting a new GT500 up the hill at the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Of course, this isn’t some sort of record attempt. It’s more about flash than substance, which is where Gittin Jr. excels. He kicks off the run by getting sideways and removing prodigious amounts of tread from those pricey Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. After that, things get a little more serious and Gittin Jr. works those corners hard, stomping up the hill at high speed.
All the while, this Grabber Lime Green, Carbon Fiber Track Pack equipped GT500 looks amazing. Personally, this is probably exactly how we’d spec ours if given the opportunity. But perhaps more importantly, it sounds simply incredible. This car sounds every bit as angry as it drives, belting out all kinds of angry noises.
It sure sounds like that new 7-speed dual-clutch transmission shifts lightning quick as well. Though we admit, it’s a little strange to not see Gittin Jr. banging gears. Obviously, we’d prefer a traditional manual option, but we’re also digging the fact that Ford is embracing the future here. So long as the big, blown V8 sticks around, we suppose we can settle for letting the car do a little work for us.
So if you were looking for a little extra motivation to go out and secure your own GT500, this looks like it. Personally, it’s left us wanting one more than ever. We may not ever get to drive it up Goodwood’s legendary hill. Nor will we ever have half the skill that Gittin Jr. possesses in his right pinky. But at least we’ll look and sound cool while we’re driving this thing, right?
