2018+ Ecoboost and port injection?
I have a feeling this is a really stupid question, but need to ask anyway.
I am trying to decide between a 2017 and a 2018 Yellow Mustang Convertible. A salesperson told me the 2018 Ecoboosts now have port injection as well as direct injection. Is this true? I have a feeling the answer is no. I read something about the GTs having port injection as well as direct, but I don't think the same is true for Ecoboosts. Am I wrong? Also is the 10 speed really that bad on the Ecoboosts? Too choppy or is the 6 speed on the 2017s better? Thanks! I used to have a red Mustang GT convertible and now going back to Mustangs again...possible. Car hunting. |
Negative ghost rider. Details below are for 2019 but the 2018 would either be the same or move up, not move backwards.

I dont know about the port + direct injection questions. the 10 speed is a big improvement over the 6 speed auto. |
The 2.3 Ecoboost I4 does not have both, their bigger ecoboost motors do:
3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 in the 2017 F-150 Raptor flying pickup and the GT supercar 2.7-liter Ecoboost V6, F150 5.0 in the 2018+ Mustang. 3.3-liter V-6 in the F150 History: Ford currently is the dominant player with what it calls dual-fuel, high-pressure direct injection (DI) and lower-pressure port injection (PI). Applications include turbocharged and naturally aspirated V-6 and V-8 gasoline engines—four in all—ranging in size from 2.7 to 5.0 liters. The 2017 F-150 Raptor flying pickup and the GT supercar both are powered by new 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6s so equipped. Ground-bound F-150s also rely heavily on this technology with a dual-fueled base 3.3-liter V-6 and optional EcoBoost 2.7- and 3.5-liter V-6s. Ford’s most recently announced application thus far is the new 5.0-liter V-8 that will power the 2018 Mustang GT. |
Sounds like it's time to have the salesman show you the dual injectors.
