Extract from the Texas DPS...I would recommend you double check with an inspection station to make sure it's current..

Passenger vehicles. All side windows of the vehicle must have at least a 25% light transmittance value and luminous reflectance of 25% or less, over the entire surface area of the window.

In order to stay legal in the state of Texas, your best bet would be to tint your windows using the following:

rear window: Limo (or as dark as you want)
rear quarter windows: 20%
side windows: 35%

Hope this helps...

RE: Texas tint???

You need to follow the law for tint especially if you are in a big city like houston, dallas or san antonio. I live in Houston and I when I got mine done I just told the guy to do limo tint all the way around. He said no problem but the cops are really cracking down on it. I thought he was just pulling my leg but I listened to him anyway. While they were putting the tint on I waited in the showroom and while I was waiting three people came in getting quotes to take off thier tint bc they got a ticket for it being too dark. I couldnt believe it and I was only there for like thirty min.

Note that the 25% requirement is INCLUDING factory tint. If you put 25% tint on your car, you will likely fail a sensor test should they administer one because combined with the factory tint you will be darker than 25%. A high end local tint shop told me not to go darker than 30% to stay within the law because with the factory tint it will test around 27%.
