Default Rocker panel cover removal?

Hey, has anyone here pulled off their rocker panel covers?

My friend, who drives a monster-jeep, cut down a tree and left about 6" of stump sticking up in his driveway. Right beside the turn-around circle. In his completely unlit yard. Of course, I came along and ran my driver side panel down it.[:@]

I need to replace the damaged plastic fasteners and remove the panel to decide if I should polish out the scratches or just replace it($300 painted from Ford). The wood was pretty rotten and I'm almost sure I can buff out the scratches. The plastic spacing blocks on the inside are cracked, but I think some epoxy will fix them until I'm ready to spend the money. The ratchet fasteners on the bottom are one time use items, so I need to get replacements, but I'm really hoping the tabs that hold the top of the cover to the bottom of the door sill don't break off and force me to replace the whole thing right now.

If anyone has pulled theirs off I 'd like to know if they pop right back on, or if the top set of fasteners is trashed. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Here is a link over to the V6 Appearance board. Extensive write up on the removal of the rockers...

Also, you may want to just look into buying a pair of GT take off rocker panels....only cost about 60 or 70 bucks....

Mike,

Thanks for the quick reply! I didn't think to look in the V6 section.

I think I'll repair what I have and replace the fasteners for now. I'm going to bid on a set of those take-offs--they sure beat Ford's price for one. I'll put them on when winter is over.

Matt

The problem with V6mustangstuff is that shipping is 110.0 for 2 of these panels. Why is shipping double for 2? Doesn't that seem expensive for shipping?

Are you sure? I added a pair to the shopping cart and the total including shipping to TN was 125.48. I haven't ordered yet, but I'll let you know when I do. Probably on the next paycheck.

The dealer told me there were two styles made, and based on a build date of 2/22/06, my car needs the later of the two. I have no idea what the difference is. I've emailed these people twice now with no reply to see if they have what I need. I guess I'll just call them tomorrow.

I just wish I could find a good price on a full set of factory panel fasteners... I'm almost afraid call Ford to find out how much they cost.
