Default Fixing scratches on Glass

Any one know of any glass polishing compound I can use to remove fine scratches on glass?
I think one of the workers at my car wash was wearing a diamond ring since I now have a 4 inch scratch on my 2007 GT windshield.
My dad said he fixed a windshield once using toothpaste and an hour's worth of elbow-grease.
Any suggestions?
