Satin Black pony emblem and fake gas cap. . .Clearcoat???
well i've got them painted flat black, now i just need to get them back on! anybody recommend a glue/adhesive for the pony? one that dries BLACK or CLEAR please?! and the fake gas cap came off but left the double stick "tape" on there, so maybe i'll stick it back on with just a little more glue/??? on there???

northy_folk,
When I re-installed mine after putting stripes on the black Mustang I used rubbing alcohol and it did a real nice job of “reactivating†the adhesive. I was pretty impressed.

oh! so the black spongy adhesive came off with the emblem? that's what mine has on the back of it, and actually it's still stuck to the car! i pulled the cap off and the adhesive stayed on the car. btw: where in alaska are you? south of Anchorage somewhere?

North of Anchorage, Matsu Valley.
Yes the rubber adhesive came off with the emblem> (with help from me as I have bebadged a few carswe've owned for the last 10 years) I knew I was going to re-install it so I made sure the adhesivecame off with the fake gas cap emblem. I was AMAZED how much dirt and crap was between the rubber and paint of the trunk lid! SCARY! I'll take pics in thenext couple ofweeks when I remove the one on the yellow vert.

Man you guys had some serious flooding last year! We were there and I had to divert from the main highway [Parks?] and cut across the Denali Hwy. . . very fun! anyways, let me understand you correctly: you put the rubbing alcohol on the sticky side, to "re-sticky" it??????? just trying to get my mind around that. thanks!!!!

Yes, it appeared to me that the rubber adhesive thing was actually sticky on both sides and I removed it from both, firstthe car and then emblem to "re-energize" it and make it real sticky again. The funny part is I was using the rubbing alcohol to clean it so I could use some other spray adhesive to reatatch it after the stripes, but once I found how it made it like new I said HEY!
Use plain old rubbing alcohol you will be surprized with the results... fyi Also I had my fake gas cap off for a few days letting the stripes 'cure'.

Thanks! that was very helpful! Now if i could just get the right paint on there that will last i'll be good to go. I bought Krylon Infusion satin black and it's supposed to cling to just about anything and it's for outdoor use, but it scrapes off with a simple fingernail swipe, so. . . . back to the drawing board. Maybe some clear coat spray over it?!
