Adhesive for quarter scoops

Adhesive for quarter scoops
I have recently purchased the Xenon Quarter Scoops for my car and applied them, using the pre-applied 3M tape and folowing the instructions. I put them on a clean surface and they appeared fine initially. After a few days though they began to seperate themselves from the vehicle to the point that I had to remove them. My being able to easily remove and clean up the tape, after hearing how it can be a big pain to do makes me even more skeptical about trying again with tape. I was thinking of trying a more permanent adhesive that is not tape. Does anyone have suggestions as to a type and brand? If that is a bad idea does anyone have advice on how to improve the effects of the tape? Thanks.

1st off,did you remove the wax off the area? I used a wax remover then used the prep
wipes with the kit then the 90-91?% rubbing alcohol from wal-mart.And made sure not to touch
the prep area. Then I used a hair dryer to warm up the adhesive on the tape and layed
them on...no problems.

I recently installed a ducktail wing using nothing but 3M tape. As stated above I prepped the area using some prep cleaner I found at Autozone that cuts through whatever grime and or wax the surface of your car has. That thing is stuck like no one's bussiness..

Yes, I did prep the area after cleaning it carefully, that is why I am confused as to why the tape gave. Maybe it was just a bad batch of tape? Seeing that everyone else is not having problems with the tape I might as well try it again and see what happens. Also, could someone tell me where I can buy replacement tape that is the same as the tape that comes on most body add-ons?

3M makes an even stronger tape called Automotive Moulding Tape. An auto parts store will have this.
Also, it is highly recommended that you use an adhesion promotor on both the part and the car (this goes for glass too if your scoops tape to the glass and not just the paint) This stuff can be found online and it's pretty cheap. It strengthens the bond a lot.
To remove the old tape, you can use laquer thinner, then once it's all off of there you should clean it again with pure rubbing alcohol.
Word to the wise.....do not try to tape anything on your car in direct sunlight on a hot day. When I did this, the scoop came away from the car in the heat. I had to tear it off and remove all the tape and do it over. Not fun.
