I did mine about 9 months ago.both mirrors and window trim. no chips since. I sanded to 100grit, but I think as long as it is smooth and all the dimples are out you should be fine. I tell you it makes the car look so much cleaner. go look at the post with the SEMA pics. none of the mustangs have it done. it makes the window look like a picture frame

They told you wrong about the paint coming off soon. It doesn't come off other plastic pieces that are painted. You get an andesion promotor and spray on the sanded mirrors to help the paint stick. Sounds like they just didn't want to mess with it. The mirrors are very easy to remove. I also removed the mirrors out of the housing before I painted them. They turned out great.
