Thats what I'm talking about!. Those look like 6" stripes. They look good with that hood, but I wonder about how they'll look on the flat stock hood.

matt black stripes are the only color stripes i'd choose vinyl over paint.

Why would you choose vinyl over paint for matte black? Please be specific, I REALLY want matte black stripes, and am currently discussing the ins-n-outs of it with a local bodyshop...

I am having matte black stripes painted on my car as we speak.

If you clear the flat black it's then going to be gloss black, so no you don't use clear coat over it. Some bodyshops use a special mixture that has a special additive that will act as a clear and protect the paint.

All I have to say is good luck with flat black stripes with vinyl, but the main reason I switched was because I am having a differnt style stripe put on my car then what the vinyl companies offer.

Could you elaborate on the "special additive"? My main concern is what happens when I wax the car? Will I be able to buff the wax off the flat black or will it stick to it and haze up?

On the website I posted about they said you can wax over them, but to make sure you do it in a direction parallel to the stripes.

Dupont Hot Hues offers a paint calle Hot Rod Black that would work perfectly for matte striping.

Says it's a top coat paint, no clear coating needed. Also says not to polish it as it affects gloss so I imagine that also means waxing. So basically you would need to mask off that area whenever you waxed.
