Pypes Mid-Muffler Tips Rusting???

I've had my Pypes Mid-Mufflers on for about 30 days. Absolutely love the sound, but the condition of the tips leaves much to be desired. I guess I didn't do my homework about what material Pypes is using on these. I did not have this problem with my old GTA's, but the Pypes were quite inexpensive so I guess I got what I paid for.

Take a look at the below pictures. These pictures are AFTER a thorough scrub with Meguires Gold Class car wash and polish with Meguires Quik Shine. As you can see, it didn't help much. My questions...

1- Has anyone else experienced this with Pypes Mid-Mufflers?
2- Am I using the wrong cleaning products?
3- Do I need to get out a more corrosive pad/sander?
4- Since the tips are removable, has anyone attached alternate tips?

Thank you for your help and advice.

Try this before anything else. Take some aluminum foil and ball it up in a small ball. Dip it in regular Coca-Cola and rub it on the tips. It will clean of the rust easily.

no, it sounds weird, but I saw it on mythbusters. It really does work.

(And don't call me Shirley)

Or just polish them up with mag/billet polish but the other trick sounds cheaper. I don't really see any rust it just looks like stainless discoloration to me. Pretty common really, my tips are a goldish color ever since I went to the track and got them good and heated up.

My car does the same as yours, but my wifes does not. I think its because i have no cats and she does. I just carry around some steel wool in my box of cleaning suppies. So whenever i clean my car i take the steel wool and go over the tips with it and wipe it off with a rag and they look brand new

If it is actually rust, yes this can help on REAL CHROME. If it is just discolored, that won't help. I'd replace the tips if you can't get them polished up with some mag/alum polish.

That's one thing I love about my Corsa's ... tips look AWESOME.

Just make sure the steel wool you are using is stainless steel wool. If you use regular steel wool pads like SOS, it could imbed carbon steel into the tips and really cause them to rust. Stainless steel discolors when it is heated, even 304 stainless which is what Pypes makes their tips out of. Ever seen stainless headers? They discolor very quickly due to high heat. I'm betting the Corsa tips are probably double walled and that's probably why they aren't discolored. Double walled tips will keep the heat on the inside more easily and prevent the outside from getting discolored so easily. Personally I'd rather just spend $10 on some Mother's polish than to spend a lot more on new tips.

Thanks guys for all the advice. I think I'll just replace the tips... I don't want the hassle of having to scrub and polish these things weekly with steel wool, SOS, etc.... biggest question is where can I find good looking high quality chrome tips that will fit?
