Default 86 gt body mouldings

i have a 86 gt vert that i just got from cali...i live in ny and wanted a good rust free car...anyway...it had just been painted viper red...excellent paint job but they painted the body moulding that goes all the way around the car with the red also...i want to make the moulding black again...i have painted my own stangs before and know from experience that the rubber mouldings dont take paint too well even with the adhesion promoter...anyone ever had to do this before and if so suggestions would be great...thanks...john

It seems that you are on the right track since you are using adhesion promoter, maybe the problem is with your paint. Go to the autobody supply store and get a can of trim black. I think 3M makes it, along with others, I'm sure. Use the adhesion promoter, then the trim black. It will look great as well as match the rest of the trim on the car.
