The paint wearing factor would make me
stray away form the lanyards but they
do look funny without them.
And the look on the dealer tech when
he cant get the hood to pop is priceless.

i have some wear on my hood, cuz mine are actually functional (it's actually what holds that baby down), but if they're not functional, have your hole the pin goes through a lil higher than the level at which the hood sits and you should have no problem with rubbing - reallly, the only part mine has is on the hood right next to the scuff plate from taking the pins out, rubbing the lanyard on the hood. everything else is cherry, and the cable covers up the dull area anyway

WITH. Use the lanyards. Loop them towards your wheels. They look goofy towards the center of a hood IMO.
For the record, the hood pin appearance kit I got from American Muscle has a thin coating of plastic over the lanyard, so no paint damage worries. (I didn't want to drill my hood)
I screwed my lanyards into the underside of my hood, so my hood can be lifted without having to mess with the pins at all. Strictly appearance.
I get teased by my buddies at work for not getting "real hood pins" I just respond "I'll get YOU real hood pins, if you let me drill holes in your car!"
