I just purchased the car 3 days ago. Its a 05 GT premium & it has the bullet style 17's. I just noticed today I could seeall 20studs/threads on all 4 wheels.Closer examination revealed my lugnuts are indeed open faced hex nuts (see link below). Did FORD put these on my car or did the previous owner? Do the bullet rims require open lugs? Are there lug covers that i am missing? Thanks.

That's weird. Somebody prob just put them on wrong. I got the bullets and they aren't open faced like that. Quick and easy fix tho. Just take them off and put them back on the right way.

... lol!?.. its not that they went on wrong.. its a completely different style lug nut.. whoever put those on prolly had them sitting around or got them cheap.. just go to discount tire and get some acorns.. (closed lug)

Or get the Steeda locking ones. $35 and makes it hard for someone to steal your wheels.

It looks funky especially if the exposed threads were rusty. I guess ill buy the black acorns from american muscle. I still dont under stand the purpose as to why someone would swap the lugs (so many possibilities). Its a 05 GT with 12000 miles!

I didn't realize it was a different style lug nut. Figured someone just put the lug nots on backwards and the backs of them were an open style nut. My bad.

Maybe the chrome caps over the stock lug nuts cap came off. This does happens after so many times, especially when used with impact guns. Thats all they are is open lug nuts with chrome caps pressed on. They are also the kind that swell and make it hard to put the correct socket on.

What? How would one put on lug nuts backwards if the "backward" side i closed? Did you think that through?

How could you put an aluminum-covered one-sided lug nut on backwards? You cant.
No way all the covers came off 20 lugnuts either that is a ridiculous idea.

Not all that ridiculous, I mean its just as possible as someone removing perfectly good factory lug nuts. At least 6 or 7 of mine are ready to fall off.
