Default Lower Grill Question

I have an 08 Mustang , V6, Pony Package, US, not California. So I bought a billet lower grille and it wouldn't mount up and the reason seems to be it assumes I have a lower grille to mount it over, but I don't. There's an upper black chicken wire sort of grille and in the lower opening (behind and below and to the sides of the front licence plate) there's nothing. You can see molded in brackets where foglights or a grill could be but there's nothing there. Everything is body color. (this is why I wanted a grill in the first place, it looks like something's missing). Looking at the pictures I could find on the web most of the Mustangs seem to have something down there like in the upper grille space so my question is, IS something missing? I got the car brand new, did they leave something out?

Thanks,

Dan

I've never heard of a Pony pkg without a lower grille - I'd do some lot snooping at a dealership, of course Ford may have decided to cut costs and save 10.00 per car

What you bought was an overlay grill. The aftermarket sells two different types of upper and lower grills. The first type is a direct replacement which actually replaces the stock grills. The second type is the one you have, which is an overlay grill, and as you found out its meant to attach to the stock grill instead of replacing it.

You have two options, you could go back to the dealer and complain (nicely of course), and they may actually help you. You could also return the grill to where you bought it and eat the shipping and possibly the restocking fee. They may wave the restocking fee if you buy the replacement grill through them.

Does it look like this? If so it mounts over the existing grill.
