Opinions on smoked/blackout tail lights?

I have read that some people say to SAND the lights before puttin VHT night shade on them.... others say they did not...
Some say to use clearcoat after... some not.
Some say it is easy to do... some have said you can mess them up easily.
That is why I am considering buying wal mart tint.
Unless I get some more input.

Thanks, appreciate it
I scuffed the lights before both coats and before the last coat of clear coat. I definitely recommend that clear coat, really shines them up. You also don't really have to worry about messing them up as long as you spray an even coat. If you do end up getting bubbles or inconsistencies, they will be lessened when you scuff before the clear coat/second coat

They do NOT look that dark in person

lol yeah, 2 coats, did it myself. The pics i posted makes them look REALLY dark but they've lightened up a bit since they've had a full day to dry. They're not completely black, but still pretty dark, looks pretty good overall and the light shines through great.

Ok I may just do this then.
Question.... whats the best way to make sure you get an even coat?
Did you lay them out and then just spray across them from top to bottom or did you spray the whole light all at once?
Need some technique info here!

when i paint, i usually spray 8-12 inches away from what you are painting. start on an area just to the left (or right) of what you are painting and go across and back with a 'sweeping' motion (completely covering the part and a little on the area just outside the part on the other side). i usually do that 6-10 times (each pass is a very light coat) and i consider it one coat of paint overall.
aside from a couple of dog hairs and dust particles floating around (since i'm painting in my garage ), everything i have painted that way, so far, has come out pretty smooth
just be sure to clean and prep the area well before painting
