Default Hate my Hood Scoop

I really don't like the hood scoop that the previous owner put on my car. It's the 3D Carbon hood scoop and my car's a torch red 2005 Mustang GT. Link to the site for the hood scoop is

http://www.ssinserts.com/index.php?m...oducts_id=1208

I don't like the hood scoop to begin with but to make matters worse the paint job is shoddy. It's starting to fade and is no longer the same color as the rest of the car. My car has 42,000 miles on it and the hood scoop has been on the car for pretty much the entire life of the car. the paint shop I talked to said my only option would be to have the scoop repainted and they said they could do it for about $150. I don't have a grand to drop on a new hood and any of the ones I like would end up costing more than that anyway.

My question is would the paint underneath the hood scoop be off color enough that I shouldn't remove it?? It just stuck on with double-sided tape. How much should it cost to have my original hood repainted? I wouldn't think it would be too bad since it already fits proper and everything.

Anybody have any experience with this???

Whoever paints your scoop will probably pull it off anyway and stick it back on. Its hard to say if you will have any fading until it comes off. I tired of looking at mine because i thought it looked cheesy and just yanked it off one night then spent about an hour cleaning all of the tape gunk off.

I really want to just pull it off but I'm afraid it'll leave a nice square of paint that's brighter/less faded than the rest. I really don't like any other hood scoops, the hood I like the most is the Trufiber GTS-4 hood. It's basically the Venom Trufiber hood made for the GT instead of the GT500. But I don't have the money to buy it and do the proper prep and paint work to make it look good.

It looks better than the factory scoop.

I think you would be fine with just pulling it off but if you really wanna go with another hood try Cervinis some of their hoods painted and shipped are only $450-$650

That's a deal there.
And the finish quality is spot on as well.

Interesting, I'm gonna go check out Cervini's hoods right now. Doubt I'll just love any of them but for that price I think I'll get over it!

Don't compromise man.
If you don't like any Cervini styles, just don't buy any.
Wait it out, save and buy the one you really want.

Couldn't agree more. I liked the '68 KR hood they had, but once they replaced it with the Type IV it pretty much turned me off that hood. Cervinis has a nice selection though. I tihnk they have a hood fir everyone.
