Are stripes a DIY project?

Are stripes a DIY project?
I want to add some strips to my 2005 GT. I am not sure I have the patience to do it myself. How difficult is it? Typically, what do shops charge to install and do they have good results? How do you find a good local shop to do it?
Thanks!

I am the owner of a decal shop. I have been installing vinyl for over 13 years. These stripes as on most cars are about a 4-5 out of 10 in difficulty. If you have done things like this before you should be able to do it if you take your time and do it right. If you have never messed with vinyl on a larger install i would say to take it to have it done. Most vinyl shops do installs like this all the time. I have done many many sets and charge depending on how long it takes. For a Mustang I would not pay any more than $100 to $150 tops. Depending on what you are getting. Thats just for the install, not the stripes. I charge much less than that, but some larger shops in larger city's charge much more for labor.

I did it in 4 sections over 4 days, taking my time. I did the hood, the front end, the roof and rear deck then the rear end and the spoiler. Pick a warm day so the stripes are more pliable and will stick good. I used a 2" piece of tape right down the middle of the car and fit my stripes up to it. Spray the area well with soapy water, spray the back of the stripe as you pull it off the backing. Slide it around until you get it in position then use the squeegee to lock it in place. Trim it up w/the x-acto knife and you have a professional looking stripe job for $75 or so.

Local shop wanted $200 for stripes and install. I got from AM $39. Wife and daughter helped. The trick I found was 1) DONT soak the area, that is that much more that you have to squegee out. 2) when usings a spray bottle, set it so that it mists on there. Had one section that the bottle was putting bubbles with the wetted area. Only flaw at first was a bubble that went away.

I just know I will mess it up. Its about 95 degrees with what feels like 95% humidity here in central NC. Just standing still works up a sweat. I cant imagine working on my car in the garage. Maybe for a winter project!
