Louvers & Tailight Chasers - Are they Legal
Sorry if this isn't exactly the right area.
I live in Hawaii and they have some very Draconian vehicle safety laws. 35% tint, no head/tail-light covers, nothing on 3rd brakelight
Even have this thing called Recon that you must do if your car is changed from stock on the rims or suspension...basically you have to prove that your change is safe.
So I want the SHR Louvers and the Chaser brakelights. But are they legal?
btw, I'm going to ask an Inspection Station at some point...but been too lazy to find the time.

I've already scraped the tint off of 3 cars since I moved out here...apparently I don't qualify for the local hook-up, and a $249 ticket per violation is incentive enough
I'd be seriously pissed if I had to remove the $80-150 chasers or $450 louvers

the shr louvers retain visibility so i think you would have an argument for those,,,
and i've heard that the chaser isn't legal but if they are coming from the factory in 2010+ models how could you not have an argument for that as well?

thanks for the heads-up on the 2010 models. Wasn't aware they had them.
I might buy the whole replacement sequential kit just in case though. That way I can swap 'em out as needed at inspection time.
anybody know if the wiring pigtail from a 2010 will work with a 05-09 model? seems like it might be a cheaper way to get sequentials

Sequentials ARE, chasers are NOT.
At least one light on each side must illuminate
and stay illuminated as long as the brake pedal
is depressed, any more like sequentialy lighting
2 more bulbs is just gravy.
Chasers dont perform that function.
HI might be different but the geographical location makes up for that...
The 2010 sequences with the SmartJunctionBox logic,
not with a sequential harness persay...
So, no the 2010 'harness' wont work on the 2005-09s.

I would think since you do have two side mirrors there shouldn't be an issue with having ¼ window louvers.
I don't look out those windows anyway when I'm driving, I use my side mirrors that have a blind spot mirror attached to it.

if i were you i would buy this kit
http://www.meter4it.com/2005_to_2009_mustang.htm
set the jumper to stock and tail lights blink stock...after inspection set jumper to sequential or chaser and your good to go until next inspection..i would just mount the box in a convenient location under some trunk carpet.
Thanks.

There are pics from the inside if a car with SHR louvers that show you can barely notice them. I can provide one if you want. And while the 2010's do have sequentials stock, you have to also realize they only sequence when using the turning signal, not when you brake. This is to satisfy some kind of law, which I'm not sure is enforced in Hawaii.

thanks for the replies and ideas guys.
I first ran across the sequential tails when I was 16 (many moon ago) and almost bought a 67 Merc Capri.
Been in love with the idea ever since. I'll probably do it in the end.
