Cross-Compatibility Shaker 1000 Questions
I have dealt with my Shaker 1000 system since I bought my car. Admittedly, the system is stellar for OEM (which explains why I have kept it so long), but it is lacking in several important respects. I am considering swapping out some or all the parts of the system. Here are my questions on cross-compatibility. If you can answer one or all of them, please reply.
Can the Shaker 1000 head unit be replaced with an aftermarket one, while still maintaining all the stock speakers?
Can the Shaker 1000 speakers be replaced with aftermarket ones, while still maintaining the original head unit?
Can I replace the 2X Shaker 1000 10" subs and still keep the stock box (assuming a replacement of all other system components)?
Can either of the amplifiers be reused with aftermarket speakers/woofers?
Crutchfield tells me that the front and rear speakers are 6 X 8. Is this true? Can any other size speakers fit in those spots?
It looks like to me that there is a separate woofer and tweeter system in the doors, are these component speakers or coaxials?
Is the door woofer just a woofer, or is there another tweeter set inside the woofer? If they are coaxials, can I replace them with component speaker units?
I think that covers most of my questions. Basically I need a crash course in Shaker 1000 modifications. Tell me anything else you think might be useful.

I like the shaker 1000 as well, just needs some high powered mid-range and high frequency tweeters.
Getting my subs replaced and adding a 1000 watt amp this summer. The enclosure seems sturdy, though the trunk seems as if it'll rattle like crazy with all the new bass.
Pretty sure they can be replaced and used with the head unit. The signal should be already have a low band frequency cut off, so you can just hook up an external sub amp and be done with it. Just take out the crappy stock one.
I think the doors are 8inch subs, rears might be 6x9s...
