I pulled my sound insulation (has nothing to do with fire by the way) last year. I have a supercharger and vinyl stripes on my hood and haven't had any problems with it for the vinyl.
i might have to do this... but that is if the painting doesnt go well
The fire blanket under the S197 hood is nothing super pretty, but the one under an '03 termi has the words "COBRA" down the center of it. I'm going to try to sweet talk speedracer into painting mine.

Said sweet talking anD I gotta check the boost in the GT500 (only one left )
I was just touching mine up... If you were trying to make yours the same color as your car the better paint you use the better results you will get, some places that mix paint will put your color in a spray can for you. I'm a welder by trade not a painter so someone else would probably be more qualified to tell you exactly how to go about this the correct way.

Now he's just being modest. He babies his car, so if is was good enough for his I am certain you would be happy.

Hey thanks man - I really appreciate the comments!
Take a look here http://iihs.net/fsm/?dir=1 and find mustang diagrams to help you remove the intake. Like any other project, do your research and take your time, patience goes a long way when painting.
I'll be out in the garage today running a couple wires and taking some photos of how I ran my foot well lights.
