Can body panels be "massaged" to fit louvers?
 

I have a 2010 GT500 hood vent installed in my hood. See pic below. I will be doing a GT500 nose clip shortly and want to clean up the way the hood looks.

So I am going to pick up a cheap used V-6 hood and see if a shop can create a recess so the hood vent sits flush with the rest of the hood...like the GT500 hood does from the factory.

It actually looks pretty nice right now, but it's the little things in life, and I want it to look like it came from the factory with that installed.


if not possible, does anyone know of a aftermarket hood that utilizes the GT500 hood vent? or looks really similar?

Is that thing pop-riveted in? That looks like it really needs a little TLC by a very good body shop. The one on the GT500 looks like it's inset.

yeah it can be done but my guess is it won't be cheap at all. It will take some fabrication and someone who has a clue lol.

You may be better off just buying the gt500 hood, even if you get a replica.

There's a tool that can flange the edge of the opening you made.
It's good for straight lines however, so for all 4 corners, you'll need a shop experienced in the hammer and dolly technique to say the least.
It will have to be repainted because of tool marks and paint chipping right where the recess step will be.
It's not hard to do when you know what you're doing. (aluminum is more workable in tight areas than metal)
Then again, most shops can fugg up a wet dream...

yes, I ended up pop-riveting the scoop on. it originally was installed using only the lip on the leading edge and double sided tape...but the scoop moved around at highway speeds and scared me. rivets seem to go with my chrome theme a bit.

the GT500 hood does have that scoop inset. I am going to do the GT500 nose conversion on my car in Oct and figured I might as well clean up the whole look while I'm in that area.



I might just pick up a replica GT500 hood. not really a fan of the aftermarkets though...and I haven't seen any 2010 GT500 style hoods that will fit a 05-09 model.

Did the `09s still come with an aluminum hood? I thought they phased those out after 2006 or `07...though, I don't know why I thought that... eh, I'm at work, I'm not doing much thinking right now.

FWIW, I like the current look. You might try black anodized hardware in place of the rivets to blend them in. Still, I know you're going for that "factory look," but that's often overrated (frequently by the same sort of folks who wouldn't have the cajones to do what you did by cutting a big hole in the hood in the first place). Why not revel in your will? Just a thought.

No man, it's all aluminum since 05 to now.
And it doesn't apply to only Mustang...
Ford is using aluminum hoods on almost every models.
