Default HID Brights/low flickering

Just bought a used Mustang GT last week. Woohoo! The previous owner had done a lot of "cool" stuff to it, like a new hood, new taillights, tint, Eibach pro-kit, HIDs for the headlights and running lights...

In the process of driving it, I've noticed that the low beams do not always come on immediately. Usually, the drivers side stays off and the passenger side flickers. However, the bright beams will come on immediately and stay on. ?? I usually start out running the brights, then switch to lows after several minutes. Usually, both low beams will work then. Is this a normal problem? As long as something comes on, I can deal with it, but it'd be nice to get it working perferctly.

had a similar problem. You need to attach a resistor to the car's harness just before it plugs into the HID harness. It will solve the flickering problem and adjust the voltage spike you get initially and then you should be fine. I went to hell and back to fix mine. I finaly went with a 55w kit and have no issues anymore.

I would recommend getting a new wire harness kit that has resistor built into it. It would work better for you. I did the same thing for a friend of mine. Getting a new wiring harness takes all the guess work out of it and usually only costs about 25 dollars.

Thanks to both of you for your replies. I read somewhere that cold could cause this problem also?? The temps here went from the 30s to the 50s for a day and... the low beams turned right on.

The wiring harness seems like a good idea either way, though. Any recommended brands?

You have cheap HIDs and they are going south.
+1 on the resistor to fool the SJB into thinking the
OEM bulbs are still present and working.
Put the OEMs back or get good HIDs FTW.
Do you have the single bulb magnetic high low function (most likely)?
Or are there actually two different bulbs for low and high
(not likely aftermarket).
Understand how they work and the funny actions will mean more to you...
