I pulled the ball off with vice grips, used a dremel tool to cut the antennae and "reshape" the tip and then used super glue to attach it. Hit the whole thing with satin black paint. 10 minutes and it was back on the car. I have never notice any difference in reception.

I used pliers and masking tape to keep from scratching it and just pound it back on there with a hammer and more tape.

You could use a rough garage floor in place of a dremel tool :P

Or, just go to the local hobby shop and get the plastic/rubber tips that they use for the radio control planes and cars. It will slip right over the antenna and finish it off. I think that I paid $0.50 for 5 of them.
