Default Hood Pins ? <pics>

What's kind of annoying me is how the casing/sleeve for the wiring that keeps the hood down is starting to rust/corrode - and I'm looking to either replace that part or maybe try and spray paint it? I don't know. I can't find any of the pieces sold separately and the kit is over a hundred dollars and there's no need to buy a whole new one because these are drilled onto the hood. I really think that it's the winter that did this to the hood pins because I had to drive it through the winter in Germany in 2010 and the car isn't under the car cover as much anymore - however I do plan to start putting it back on more. It just gives it a bad look with the way it appears now and I'm looking for suggestions on what to do and where to look.

check your local hardware store might be able to find the same coated cable if you look around. or just go without the cables altogether

I pulled the cables off about a month after I installed mine.

hmm, thanks for the input - if i can't find something nice to replace it or recoat it i'll follow your opinions and just take them off. i kind of always like them on, but not in the condition they're in now.

I took my lanyards off after they got rusty. I bet you could just replace them with something like these.

Mine have done the same thing. I occasionally spray WD40 down the clear rubber boot which seems to have slowed the corrosion. I've had mine for 4 years, and they look pretty good. Then again the only moisture my car sees comes out of the hose!

yeah i would love if my car's home was a garage. unfortunately my job doesn't allow it. considering that it's an outside car though it looks showroom floor, as close as i can anyways, thanks to the clay bar - but those lanyards are proof of it being outside nearly all the time
