Default Shifter Erosion?

Hey guys,

Question for everyone out there - is there any way to restore the luster to the automatic shifter in my 2006 Mustang? My shifter is of the silver variety, but after years of holding it, it's starting to essentially rub off and leave an undesirable primer look on it.

I'd hate to go through the trouble of replacing it over a cosmetic issue, is there a spray finish or something along those lines that will restore the look?

Thanks all

I would maybe look into a very quick and inexpensive fix like wrap it in carbon fiber vinyl, or any color for that matter.
