Default Repaint the right way - $$$$?

So, I'm car shopping. My windveil blue GT got totaled this weekend and I'm looking around for another one.

I came upon this car.

Legend Lime 2006 GT Vert.

Some choice options added, mileage a bit high but in overall healthy condition. I later discovered with my mechanic that the entire car had been repainted and the top had been replaced. The new paint was dry in places and you could see ever see a bit of tape on a blinker where they'd taped it off.

I put the car on a lift to check for frame damage and can find none. I don't know if there was an accident or not. I decided I wasn't interested.

For grins, I figure I'd ask some of your guys, theoretically, if I bought this car and had to deal with paint issues (whole car to LL again, done RIGHT this time) what would you guys think would be a fair price to expect from a knowlegable body shop for removing inferior paint and repainting?

Ask pascal....he is a member here and owns/operates a body shop.

When looking at used cars, be sure to lift up the carpet in the back and see if there are any structual damage. Also be aware, many 2006 models seemed to be plagued with the dreaded leak, so make sure you look for any signs of that too. Actually from reading this forum the leak can be found on any S197 model years. So far I have not experienced it.

An entire car done right? I'd venture to say about $3k.. I spent about $6k for some bodywork and paint on a classic..

3-4 is probably close. I had a hood fender bumper and scoops painted for 1.4-1.5

Then again I had little prep and the paint on the fender came off pretty easy

depends on the place you go to and the materials they use .. I would not trust a full exterior paint job for less than 3k. the sky is the limit.

I put it on a lift at my mechanics shop. We could not see any frame damage. Cars runs strong.

Mechanically, it seems sound. No frame damage that we could see.

Maybe it was vandalized. Not sure.

I don't understand. Mustang's are a dime a dozen, if this one has any potential to give you a headache, why not walk and find another one? it sounded like you didn't even care for the 'vert option at first, and now the paint problems.. seems like you're settling.

or are you just hoping this is a good negotiating point and hoping to luck out on the savings / not need to repaint?

Well, I DO really like the color combination. I have my eye one 3 others mustangs at this point, but if I can use this as a negotiating point to lower the price significantly, I might be willing to pull the trigger. The new cloth top is a nice touch too.

I dunno, just getting my ducks in a row if I exhaust my other options. I'm hoping a fresh batch of GT's pop up over the weekend for me to check out.

That right there, is a clue of a car being repainted by freaking amateurs.
It takes longer to tape those blinkers and taillamps (and thus doing a schitty job) than taking them off on these cars, lol.
When you say "top" you mean roof, right?
If there is as much craftsmanship in replacing that roof than there was in the paint job then you're in for a nightmare, unless you don't mind taking showers in your car.
Just keep some shampoo in the glove box!

As far as the cost of repainting a whole car professionally, it runs about $4000 these days.
