chrome dash vent upgrade (DIY Paint)

So I have been looking for a way to lose the chrome AC vent and dash bezel rings for a while.

I looked into the gt500 dash parts because they are a brushed (satin) finish and could not find a set cheaper than $150. plus I already had a carbon dash kit installed I would probably need to buy another dash kit to cover the new gt500 parts.

So searching the web I have found that people scuff and paint them as well as doing a DIY satin finish. I decided to paint them. A black chrome finish.

I chose black chrome because I really like a subtle vehicle, inside and out. I love black and carbon fiber. so my interior did not sit well with me with the chrome accent rings.

I removed all pieces and scuffed them with 220 grit on a sanding mouse. the mouse made quick work of the chrome finish. I then sanded by hand with 320 to make sure every part was dull and smooth.

i then shot with light coats of black chrome metallic paint.

The paint is very tough and sticks to almost any surface even without prep. But a final outcome depends on your prep. remember when shooting metallics that they can be streaky if you shoot them wrong. Be patient and do not lay it on thick.

The rings were removed and sanded, the dash bezel was sanded as well and taped off. A quick tip for paint part of a plastic piece. I gave a fresh coat of armor all to the plastic I did not want painted. So when overspray landed on it, clean up was easy with some goof off or alcohol pads.

the whole process took me about one afternoon from start to finish. I have had great luck with this paint and being very durable in the past. I would have no reservations about this holding up pretty well

Very nice. It goes well with the rest of the interior. Good job.
