Hello, I'm writing from Spain, I have a 2005 GT Mustang with automatic gearbox and reverse gear does not work sometimes, you have to rebuild gearbox? Thank you

if it were a band that budget would be? I have asked a company to rebuild and charges me 3.5k is a lot of money. sorry if my English is bad
How old is the transmission fluid? If it has been a long time since the fluid was replaced then you can try swapping the fluid for some new, fresh fluid. This may make reverse work more consistantly, though I do not think it will fix it long term. It is a cheaper option to try and get by. If there's a filter then it should also be replaced.

So, I am assuming you have (D)rive, and can go forward, and have 4th and 5th (O/D)
also use the DIR CLUTCH. None of these use the Low/Reverse band. SO, if it
were the DIR CLUTCH, then you'd not have 4th and 5th gearing. SO, if the car
drives normally in "D" then it's not the fluid, or pump, or clogged filter.
I would have the reverse servo unit checked, which is in the valve body:
The bottom left, that big hole, is where the reverse servo assembly is.
Can you tell me the reference of the reverse servo? in spare parts of spain do not have refills of American cars. a friend has told me that it can be a reverse band but according to reverse frame 1 and 2 it is the same but 1 and 2 works correctly
You most likely do not need to rebuild the transmission.
It is possible and just as simple that, the Reverse servo needs to be taken out and cleaned.
In the ASTG Technical Buliten 08'Mustangdude posted (that shows the reverse servo and its components), the Reverse Servo Molded Piston has a black rubber like seal that is used to create the hydraulic pressure that engages the reverse gear. If this seal gets hardened, cracks, tears or gets stuck from dirt, pressure does not get built up like it is supposed to so, you lose reverse gear.
That servo piston is available by itself as PN 4L2Z-7D189-AA
The other seal in there called the Inner 'D ring seal' is PN 2L2Z-7423-AA
To access the servo you need to drain the fluid and drop the pan. It's four simple bolts. Then dismantle the servo, clean everything, install a new piston and seal and reassemble the servo before reinstalling into the transmission. You will need about 8 quarts of MERCON V or equivalent fluid to refill the transmission. While you are in there you may as well replace the transmission filter (two additional botls).
