Default HELP!!! Need Extended Warranty Info

Hello,

I am scheduled to pick up my mustang GT this Saturday but before I close the deal I wanted to get some input on the extended warranties the dealer is offering.

The total mileage seems a bit low to me.

Here’s what I was offered:

6 years/36,000 miles = $860.00 plus tax

Or

6 years/48,000 miles = $1160.00 plus tax

There is another option after this but I didn't get the info on it.

I told one of my buddies and my Dad and both commented that the total mileage seemed low for extended warranties.

I am going to ask the salesman to fax me the warranties in writing but I also wanted to post here because I’ve come to rely on this board for information.

Any insight/wisdom/knowledge would be greatly appreciated!

I got Ford's best plan. 7 years, 75K miles. $800. Way too expensive, but the 06 Mustang is still too new of a car line for me. One computer bug could cost you a grand, and they usually occur right after the 3 year/36K mile warranty. You'll also have a whole laundry list of TSBs come out this year to fix bugs that are only covered under the original or extended service contracts.

How does the pricing work though?

The dealer can set the price for each warranty option???

I'm confused. I mean Stooge, you got a much better offer than me with the 7 years/75k miles. I would jump at that if I got offered it.

I just copied this off the Ford Website:

"Under your New Vehicle Limited Warranty, Bumper to Bumper Coverage begins at the warranty start date and lasts for three years or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first."

Why would the dealership say I have to pay $860.00 and call this extended???

What am I missing here?

My Dealer's finance guy quoted me many different plans and mileages for Ford Extended Service Plans. I picked the 7/75 plan, and it cost about $1100, so I said forget it. But the guy dealed alittle with me and it ended up about $800. Not a real bad deal that basically extends the 3/36 warranty till 7/75. My Dealership seemed happy to deal with me to get the sale.

sounds like your dealer is trying to squeeze you for a little more cash. perhaps you got a good deal on the car, and he's trying to make up for it?

i'd have to pull my paperwork for an exact price, but i also got the 7year / 75,000 mile warranty, and i'm certain i didn't write a check for more than 900 bucks. i think it was 800 and change, but i'd have to look for sure.

tell your dealer that you're interested in the extended warranty, but you aren't going to pay extra for a lame 6 year/36 (or even 48k) "extended" warranty. just remember, if you don't buy anything, you still get the 3 year / 36k warranty. i really don't think you should pay extra unless the mileage is significantly higher.

i'm wondering if you can purchase an extended warranty from another dealership? anyone know? if your dealer is giving you lame warranties, if possible, check out another dealership and see how much they'd charge you for a better warranty (like the 7yr/75k warranty that seems to be pretty popular).

I'm paying sticker price for the car.

I don't see that as a deal in any way.

The guy who deals with all warranties is off today and the salesman won't quote me any additional prices.

Thanks for your posts guys. It helps a lot!!!

You can buy the Ford ESP from any dealer. Many of them sell them over the internet. do a search on Ford ESP.

Their mileage warranties are low compared to other mfg's.

I bought one then cancelled. Why pay for something that wont take affect for 3 years.

you can buy a Ford ESP at any time before the 3/36 expires. Although the rate will be higher but some bought from dealers off internet offer 1 year payment with no interest.

800 for 7/75 is good especially if the deductible is 0. Watch what the deductible is!!

I'm thinking I may skip the ESP with the dealer and go here instead:

http://www.fordwarrantys.com

Unless the dealer wants to negotiate a bit.
