Default help with wheels and tires

Newb here and I am excited to start tweaking my new stang that I saved for for 3 years. Question-I just purchased some Eagle 20 in wheels and I am stoked. Looking at magazines and a lot of pictures on this site and they look good. My Question is what size tires should I get? Currently we are looking at 245/40 Falken or 255. I do not want it so low profile that it looks rediculous. Will this change the ride height and the feel of the car? Also, will I still be able to lower it if i do not like the look or will the wheels rub? Thanks in advance for your help. I really appreciate it.

You didn't mention what the width of the wheels are but assuming they are around 9" (based on the tire widths you mentioned) the 245/40/20s would be closer to the correct overall diameter. Check out this site: Tire Size Calculator. Put in the stock tire size of 235/55/17 and then work the new size to maintain the same overall diameter. You'll see that when you put in 245/40/20, your speedometer will actually read 2% slow, it will read 60mph when you are going 61.2mph which is pretty close. At 255 width, it will read 3.1% slow. If you change the tire height too much, a large variance in the front and back with the overall diameter can mess with the computer and ABS. Using an aftermarket chip like SCT or Diablo can correct for new tire sizes like if you want to run a larger diameter tire. I'm not sure if it can correect for differences in front to back though. -Joe

Thanks! this sounds good. We are going to put both sizes on and look at the difference. if they both look good then i will definitely go with the 245's. Th width is 8.5 by the way. I was considering a chip anyways but no i will defintley lean towards it.this is more difficult then i thought. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
