i actually used the gas milage meter in the dash (the average function, if you hit reset it will give you instantanious) and i get the same MPG at 50 in 4th and in 5th, and its lugging like crazy in fifth, so i go with fourth up to 60, then 5th it is. fifth is useless considering i hit the stupid speed limiter at like 5000 in 4th lol

I shift on to 5th anything over 40 usually. Now if I'm cowboying it then whatever. My car is so strong I can climb any hill or bridge in 5th. It loves to haul *** in any gear.
+2 I find that if I am going about 40ish and shift into 5th and set the cruise my instant MGP graph is usually maxxed out, and I am getting the highest MPG that I can!

Yea, I keep my readout set to Fuel economy graph. If I catch myself running in 4th and the graph won't go past 3 bars, then I know its time to put her in 5th. Mind you, I did not worry about my 4th to 5th shift AT ALL the first few months I had her.......but when I realized how often I was stopping at the gas station I started to watch my fuel economy readout more and changed my habits. The difference it made has been huge.

Unless I'm on a hill or in traffic, I shift into 5th around 40 as well. The manufacturer recommended (for the V6, at least) shift speed is 42 or so, I believe. In general (when I'm trying for maximum fuel efficiency), I shift out of X gear shortly after surpassing 10X mph. Yes! Algebra!

What does the graph mean? I see those bars going up from left to right, but mine don't seem to change instantaneously. How can I see my mpg at any given moment?
