Default lots of problems with the new stangs?

Ok, so I'm all set to possibly be buying a new mustang in the next week to two, but now am starting to hear murmurs of lots of problems--fuel leaks, engine problems, limited slip problems/noises, etc. So what's the story? Lots of problems by members on here? Tell me stories of super reliable cars! My last three cars were all foreign brands because I had swallowed the "they are more reliable" line, but none has been as reliable as my last mustang was, and I was hoping to go back to the fold and have a reliable car again. Have they worked the bugs out!?

This is my first Mustang and i'm very impressed with how well put together it is. Don't get me wrong, this is a sports car and it's going to have road noise and all that but I for one am extremely pleased with the car. I've owned mine for almost a year now. No problems to speak of. There are so many aftermarket add ons and such to spend money on. I'll never get bored with this ride. To each his own though. My buddy got the v-6 model and I was really impressed with the performance of that but I had to get the GT.

Have a 05 V6 for about 9 months with no problems and she feels solid. Very happy so far!

About 8 months now on my 05 GT and she's as solid a stallion as they come. Feels good to have a car that makes you smile everytime you glance out the window and see it sitting in the driveway. By far the most fun I've had driving a car.

amen to that. i wake up and its the first thing i think of. it helps me get through school, just the thought of making my way through the parking lot and firing it up.

Well, at least from what I have seen the problems have TSBs to go with them...unlike getting screwed by Subaru....free warrantied clutch then 3k later tranny exploded...must be driver error BS....

only had mine a couple months, but hem-hawed around for a year and a half before getting it, read quite a bit...my recollection of mentioned 'problems' ive seen in here:
1) some are hard to put gas in(at some stations)
2) quite a few have noisy frontends- couple have had alignment issues early too.
3) several have had vibration issues-usually seems to be driveshaft related?
4) several have had rearend/noise- failures
5) couple loose doorhandles
6) couple trannys replaced for noises
7) couple had water leaks
8) few had electrical issues- some were water leak related
9) many have dash/door rattles.
10) most dont like drive by wire throttle

for a pretty new model, seems pretty decent- the gas fill and rattles will (in my opinion) probably show up in most of them eventually, but theres some good threads on stopping rattles/squeaks, and the gas fillup thing is a minor pain...so far I think everyone-even with bigger problems- have said no regrets with the car overall, and I think that says a lot. even after waiting months to get one at sticker or over, and having minor issues, 99.9% still say well worth it.

as far as most 'bang for the buck' I dont think this model will EVER be outdone. I recall reading one guy that had an engine replaced at like 3k, but *think* that was the only 'engine disabled' type of thing Ive read...most of them are getting romped on occasionally too

if you want a quiet highway cruiser, look elsewhere- the console and door handle are kinda hard on the knees compared to most 'non sports cars', and you'll hear the mechanical music whenever you step on it. I swear I think these cars sound better (at least on the inside) than any car Ive ever been in- previous favorite of mine was a buddies 66 vette with 327/factory sidemount exhaust...I'm not kidding that was a sweeeeet sounding ride, yet I think the 4.6 sounds even better than it did. Never heard mine from the 'outside' as not many gts around, and only the wife has driven mine once in a parking lot with me in the car cruising on the highway, its quiet, but still firm- not harsh as my 85 camaro was though-except I never rested my knees against the console in my camaro- that does get noticable on longer trip.

I think the exhaust note was by far the most impressive/unexpected part of the car...everyone raved at the power/road feel/manners/etc...and it is- just I never would have expected such a little motor to sound so sweet- and actually was still suprised at the amount of power...the car looks like a million bucks, runs like a million bucks, sounds like 2 million bucks, yet costs 26k.

most fun 'stuff' Ive ever done-
1) driving the 06 mustang- its that great. I live like 3 miles from work, never go anywhere in the winter, yet have put 1500 miles on dry days only the last couple months...I could drive this thing 12 hours a day and not tire of it.
2) flying my r/c helicopter in front of pinkfloyd stage a couple hours before a show(1988-got to meet Dave Gilmour/Scott Page, and frontrow at the show!)
3) tearing up my 85 quadracer (one of, if not the first, ones in ohio) man I miss that thing, but lucky I'm still alive...last time I rode it in '89, rode 'beyond my visibility', and accidentally did a supercross style jump at about 60 mph(pegged in 4th gear) landed it, took it home never rode it again...very forgiving/predictable/fun bike, but its capabilities far exceeded mine.
4) taking my 69 mustang fastback to the dragstrip in '84 (did horrible- but it was fun, everyone NEEDS to do this at least once)
5) 'skyscreamer' ride at MGM in LasVegas- youd never get me on that f#@%^$# thing again, but what a rush! 250 feet up three abreast in like skydiving rig, to swing from cables, you fall 100 feet before the cables even catch up to you, then pull a few G's at near 100 mph about 6 feet off the ground...incredible, but never ever again. never, never.....glad we did it once, but that was enough

of course this aint including things like getting married/having kids/having kid beat 'uniformly fatal in infancy' disease and survive three open heart surgeries before three months old, or wife beating cancer when kids were only 1-2&5 yrs old...miracles of life, thats the real important stuff- makes all this other 'fun' stuff seem irrelevant...but man is this car fun to drive...next to family quality time, aint nothin better than hopping in a GT. Thank God for the opportunity to have had this much fun

I just got the dreaded dash squeak... actually sounds like a nest of baby chicks. But it only started 'cos it JUST got cold here. The other 360 days of the year that it is 80-120 shouldn't be a problem. Anyway, the fix is easy enough.

The fit and finsh is well above what I'd come to expect from Ford based on my prior experience.

I still believe there is no way a UAW car can ever compete with a Japanese car built IN Japan. They just have a far superior work ethic. But, between the continual westernization of Asia and growing fear of outsourcing in the US, times may be a changin.

i think that it is a fact with sports cars, none of them are "reliable" in the sence of a daily driver

my dad's friend who had a 911 takes it in for a tune and check up ever 2 months...i mean geez

so this car is what i would call a "pseudo-sports-car" as in half sport, half daily driver, it is not the kind of car that you will take in every couple months, but dont expect to neglect it for 9 years like you could do to a honda accord

I take care of any car I have as far as regular oil changes, air filter's, etc, etc, so there's no problem with keeping up with service
and I'm not looking for a car I can abuse or never change the oil on and it'll keep running like a top. BUT, my last three cars as mentioned were foreign makes--a VW and two subaru's--and they have all been somewhat of a PIA. It's not that they are unreliable as far as leaving you stranded, but there's just always SOMETHING, you know? My Legacy GT is a great car as far as performance--I honestly think it is more responsive to some degree than the mustangs I have test driven as far as the power comes on immediately and at lower rpms. You can be at low rpm's in 5th gear and it'll just motor on up a steep hill with no problem without downshifting. Great in that regard. Nice interior, awd's great for the snow. BUT I'm sick of things like them telling me I need to have my brakes "serviced" every 10k miles to keep them from locking on all the time and how that's just "normal maintenance", or listening to them explain that it's "normal" with any manual transmission vehicle that sometimes it just won't go into reverse. Sorry, I've owned MT vehicles nearly all my driving life and never had to have the brakes "serviced" every 10k miles or had one that sometimes just wouldn't go into reverse (sure, lots of them balk somewhat and you have to let up on the clutch a bit to get them to drop into reverse, but they always do--never had to grind the gears to get one to drop). My old mustang I bought new and drove to 130k miles with pretty much no problems and just normal maintenance, then bought an escort for a commutermobile for grad school nd about that time my dad got laid off from his job and his car died. He drove the mustang to just over 300k miles before he sold it. The escort I bought I put 78k miles on in two years without a single problem (without having to "service" the brakes or not be able to shift into reverse, strangely). I'd just like to get back to that sort of reliability.

Maybe that's just a thing of the past *sigh*
