Default Passenger Airbag Light

This may sound like a stupid question, but why is there a "passenger airbag off" indicator light next to the TCS button? I know that some cars give you the option of actually turning the airbag off ( sounds like a dumb thing to do! ) but I have not seen anything like that on the Mustang. Is it just a warning light?

Default RE: Passenger Airbag Light

For the passenger airbag, there are sensors built into the passenger seat to detect weight so that in case you put a baby in a car seat, or a young child, it will sense less weight and turn off the air bag to reduce the chance of injury in the event of an accident. If a heavier person sits in the seat, such as an adult, the air bag will be deployed in the event of an accident. The light should (never really checked it by putting a lighter than an adult weight object or person in the passenger seat) come on to indicated that the air bag is off. If the light is off, it should mean that the air bag is on.
