Default Ohh no! new wheels stick out! help.

My deep dish rims from mustang tuning that i got for a 05 mustang stick out to the point at which i'm not happy. Does anyone else have them? If so, is your offset correct?

i'm running 9 inch rims in the front with 255/45/18's
back is 10 inch rim with 285/40/18's

thanks

Trey, sorry to hear things haven't worked out too well. I've heard (and think it's correct) that the Roush 18x10"s come with +45mm offset and 275/45 tires (that should bring the tire flush with the wheel well). Stock 18x8.5" bullits have +50mm offset. What is the offset on your wheels?

I'm not sure the exact offset but its from mustang tuning and it says for 05+ so i shouldn't have to worry about that correct? I also just thought of something. I put on the rim while the car was on jackstands and never brought the car down to see if it goes in... hmmm.
i was in the process of lowering my car and i just decieded to slap on a rim ot see how it looks. Maybe taking the car off jackstands will make it look correct, I'll have to see tomarrow.

thanks

yea let me know also.... I ordered the same set up.

I am trying to comfort myself in the fact that many got the 18x10's here also and they worked out.

Keep in mind due to the panhard bar when the car is on jackstands and the rear is hanging free it will shift the rearend towards the right side of the car and once you install lowering springs without an adjustable panhard bar it will shift the rearend towards the left side when on the ground. This is the nature of a panhard bar, it is a triangulated brace between the frame and the rearend. As the height of the car changes and the panhard bar remains the same length then the width of the triange changes, shifting the rearend. Think geometry and right triangles.

Before you order rims you should know exactly how far they will stick out more than OEM. OEM tire/rim combo kicks up enough on the body especially the rear so I for one didn't want to go out any more; I did a ton of reasearch and didn't find one rim that put the outeredge in the same location as OEM. Check this out and just be sure you have no suprises.

****

The following I wrote in another thread. It should answer your questions. If not just hollar.

An inch is about 25mm. But here's a conv chart:
http://www.voltplastics.com/in_mm.html

Great info on offset and backspacing at:
http://www.rsracing.com/tech-wheel.html

In there you'll see as they say: Rear spacing or back spacing is the distance from the backside of the wheel mounting pad to the outside of the rim flange. The offset is the distance from the centerline of the wheel to the mounting surface of the wheel.

Anyway the stock bullit has 6.295" backspacing and a positive offset of 45mm. (Positive offset: When the back of the wheel mounting pad is closer to the street side of the wheel; here the mounting surface is outboard of the rim centerline.

If for example you used 10" rims with the same 45mm offset (mounting face in same relative postion to centerline as the stock bullit rim) then with the two inch greater rim width you are putting 1 inch more outward of your wheel mounting pad and 1 inch more inward of your wheel mounting pad. Now if you only had a 20mm offset for example that 25mm less (approx 1 inch) will be all outward movement of the rim position (just like you had thrown a 1 inch spacer on there). Now you're out 2" which to me is not acceptable, at least looks wise. Because of a special paint scheme on my GT, and I see how debris already kicks up with stock setup I have gone with FRPP 17x8 chrome bullits. ...just don't want the tires outward anymore than stock; but that's me. Up to an inch seems reasonable I guess; up to you.

As far as the rims clearing the calipers that has to do with the spoke design and how it is built with respect to the bolt face. 05-06 GTs require more clearance than most so you have to know that the rims are proven test fit for the 05-06 GT or order one and test it (before mounting any tire) yourself. OEM bullits come incredibly close to the calipers.

Hope this helps. ...Jim
