Got an auto? If so thats the way it supposed to be.

Btw, its not really good on the engine to rev it high when in nuetral, your better off keeping it well below 4krpm.

Now it may be me, but after seeing your two posts it doesn't seem like you treat you car with too much love. I know we all have our fun with burnouts and all that but it seems to me you are putting your car through hell. Looking at it being your first car, you may be a little brutal on your car. I know a friend with a brand new Corolla S, that already needs a new clutch from being so wreckless. This is just my outlook on the situation, but care for your car please. ESPECIALLY since its a stang. If this is an incorrect theory please correct me as I am not here to criticise you.

+1

Talk to any auto person and they'll agree: it's not a good idea to rev up your engine. Ever. I know you want to show off to your friends but there are much better ways than to ruin your engine's life, burn gas, and make noise that bothers the neighbors! I have thrown many eggs down on people in the alley who do that!
If you want to impress them, and us, take your mustang to the track, put down some times and share them with us!

So, revving your engine while in park on an automatic hurts the engine? How bad does it hurt it?

pushrod engines don't like to be revved high with no load. Auto or other. Valves could float, stick, etc., and just generally foul things up. There is never any reason to do it with an auto. In theory, with a stick, you might want to do a 5K clutch drop but real drivers would never do that. An effective racing launch requires much less than that.

And c'mon....if you think you need to redline your engine in neutral in order to show off, you need to reconsider your definition of "cool." I assure you that nobody will be impressed...

5xStang: These cars (05+ Mustangs) don't have pushrod engines. Both the V6 and the GT are overhead cam. Regardless revving any engine with no load isn't good for it but there is just less that can go wrong with an overhead cam engine.
Yashar: Ford does this to many of their automatic equipped vehicles to keep people from doing stupid things like nuetral drops. I would just say live with it.
