The v6er's Evolution

The V6er's Evolution Performance![sm=groupwave.gif]

More often then not we seldom get the chance to meet these online personna's in real life. Located about 60 miles northwest of Evolution Performance it didn't take me long to figure out I was going to have to go down there in person and take advantage of the opportunity to meet Fred Cook in person and see what all this tuner craze was about.

My journey started with alot of questions on these very forums on what to do to the new 05's. I have a moth balled 66 coupe in the garage with a 302cobra motor / svo gt40 heads / Holly carb / edlebrock intake / Msd / 3.55 detroit locker etc.. etc... Needs some TLC on the body part so I stuck it out of the weather til I"m older. With about 6k miles on the drive train I figure it'll be something I do in my 40's or 50's. So until then I needed something to hold me over... and since the legend lives I figured I'd enjoy the ride of the new stangs. I Picked myself up a v6 vert july 2nd of 2005. What a 4th of july weekend that was! But something was missing. Some short comings of the stock setup just didn't have the kick my stangs were used to. I felt the love and pride of the car right away but it was just missing some of the hot rod american muscle that you know should be there. Ford had some throttle lag and some areas in the rpm that felt like the motor was taking a nap. So, like we all did and are still doing I sat down to find out what i had to do to make her strut that muscle the legend is known for. I decided to go with a lsd / cai / tune & some big wheels that screamed "get out of my way!" (the list has gotten longer)

After lots of forum reading right here I narrowed it down to either Brenspeed or Evolution Performance and I figured I'd go with their recommendation on CAI and which octane to run. It pays to listen to the people who know. So after being torn over which one to go with for a while I thru out the shout in one of the Brenspeed vs Evolution debates that seem to overtake most of the xcal tune threads around here. Fred being right outside my backyard so to speak had some advantage. He responded in only a few minutes and before I knew it we were on the phone shooting the ****. Friendly down to earth guy who knows what hes doing was my first impression. He recommended the C&l which at the time he was out of stock on for the v6er's. I decided to wait until he got them in. He notified me the minute he got them in and we set up arrangements for a few days later when my 87 fuel would be low so I could top off with some 93 fuel across the street from his shop. He gave me the best deal I could find anywhere and even said he'd throw it on for nothin when I came down! WOW! We talked about some tunes and what I was looking for, he was pretty convinced he had some of that american muscle that the V6 needed.

I arrived at his shop and they seemed to drop what they were doing to get me hooked up. His handy assistant took a few minutes in what looked like a very orchestrated installation. After a few short minutes the C&l was installed and Fred emerged from behind the counter with the loaded xcal. He walked me thru the simple flashing procedure and requested I take it for a spin around the loop that accents his shop. That loop (section of highway) I'm sure has seen some serious sick **** tear it up!

I backed her out and got her on the street, I didn't hammer it all the way... I kinda strongly rolled into it pretty hard. WTF! No lag and it came out of the hole running like a raped ape. (not sure what a raped ape would run like but I'd stay out of its way) I took it around above onto the highway as the tires screamed loose. I could feel the LSD and the tires fighting to grab hold as I laid down some rubber. The shifts are strong and the car pulls across the entire RPM range like if you'd be strapped to that raped apes back. ( not sure what being strapped to the back of a raped ape would feel like but I'd hang on for dear life in the event you'd fall off and he'd think it was you who just violated him)

I can not believe the difference it has made, Full throttle and having the passing gear kick sounds insanely sick and plants a :) on your face. There were alot of holy ****s! and jesus on the ride home! This v6 rips something feirce. My mod list is growing to a exhaust and a possible Zex nitrous system. All which Evolution can put on and tune. I'm glad Fred responded so quick that day. If I had gone with Brenspeed I'd be worried to death that someone with a v6 and one Freds uber tunes would pull up next to me. Now that I know what I know. I say "bring it" to the v6er's running something from Brenspeed! Hey, both guys do great work, read around the forums a bit, they both get great reviews and awesome feedback. But somebody has got to win and somebody has got lose and its you that has to choose.;)

Kudos to Fred / his Uber tunes and excellent service.

I'd love to see a friendly tuner shoot out on the dyno!

Anyone with questions about the c&l / performance gains I've felt or Freds awesome service give me shout.

RE: The v6er's Evolution

I felt the same way after installing my JLT2 and Evolution Performances tune. I do like the V6 so much that I almost got one and modded the crap out of it. In the end I went GT. No regrets but still like the V6. Good luck with your mods!
