To those with xcal2, want to know about 87 oct tune...
Want to get the XCal2, but with gas prices going crazy again, I want to stick with the 87 octane tune for now. Who is using this tune, and what differences are there between it and stock tune, if any?
Thanks

I have used that tune before and its better than stock but you will still see a difference in performance. If you got the tune from Brenspeed, Brent will be happy to tell you exactly how much HP difference there is between the two and give you an idea of the changes he made. I know the rev limiter is still at 6600 as opposed to the factory 6000. But while running with a pretty new vette down the interstate, I found out that the speed limiter is still at the factory setting of 147. When I had Brent retune for my new 06, I had him bump all of the speed limiters to 200 mph so that I would never have to worry about hitting them.
I used the 87 octane tune for my nitrous tune. So, whenever I was looking for prey, I'd keep it on the 87 tune while running around town.
I have settled for the 91 octane tune due to the fact that its hard to find 93 where I live. And I can get the 91 octane for 10 cents more than 87 octane. So, I figure for an extra $1.50 for 15 gallons of gas, its worth it to just keep the 91 tune in!

The only reason I'm using the 87 tune is to personally see/feel what is does in a daily driver routine... I'm quite happy with the improvement over stock so far - once the weather gives me a break, I'll change it up to the 91 tune and, again, see how a tank, or two, feels. From what's been written, I can't imagine the $1.50 savings will push me back to the 87, it's just not a big enough savings...

Thanks guys for the input. One thing I am curious about though, I know it wont be producing much if any more power, but does it quicken the throttle response enough to break the tires loose in 1st gear from a slow roll?

I was able to chirp the wheels easily in first and 2nd with the 87 tune. I could spin them pretty good on a roll from first if I shifted just right. I ran an 87 tune for a while and have since been running the 93 tune...thinking about just using the 93 on track days and saving $ on fuel in between.
