im just wondering if the newer stangs have any defects... my sister is about to buy either a 05 or 06 mustang V6 or GT... which would be best? what do most get in mileage in the GT auto's?

She should take a test drive of each. The cars are as different as night and day.
And if high reliability is a criteria she should consider a Toyota or a Honda.
I'm a Mustang owner and Mustang fan but an honest one.

^ exactly what that guy said. I bought a GT cause I wanted a loud, abnoxious street car that has the potential to stuff alot of horsepower under the hood.

I have had zero problems with my 05. It has reliability and great power. Sure a Volvo may have less trips to the mechanic but we aren't talking about driving an old Harley here. These machines are built to last and run. They do both quite well IMO. I have a 95 and a 90 and they are great cars. (The 90 has 235,000 original miles on motor and tranny) . THIS 05 is twice the car either of the others are.

If you're debating between the two, test drive each. They're totally different beasts under the same skin.
Aside from the Skipper 500 (the radios have some documented issues, check the TSB thread also), my GT's been wonderful.

I actually own one of each and they are DEFINATELY two very different beasts. 26-27 mpg in the v6 hwy 23-24 mpg in the GT (ONLY IF I CAN KEEP MY FOOT OFF OF THE FLOOR) Like the guy's above said. Test drive both, then decide. Reliability has not been a problem in either of the cars so far "knock on wood".

If you don't mod it to death, the V6 and GT will last a long long time. I've had a 68' and now I have an 05' and I am so glad they were invented in my time. Sure they aren't the best riding vehicle around but they are so much fun to drive...and for a heavy car, they can take a corner...and mine is all stock ....for the most part...! I agree with everyone else...test drive both and then buy the GT...!!!!
Ya baby...

Most new cars you can buy these days are extremely reliable and will last a long time. They are a few exceptions, but as you can see from the forums there aren't many people having problems with the new mustangs and those are usually minor bugs with the windows, etc. The only time you're gonna run into engine problems is if you start modding it out with something like a supercharger, go crazy and end up blowing the engine.
