I want a Shelby Grille, with Fog lamps in GT positioning... and the Mustang emblem inbetween.

Answer: NO! ...been looking at a way to do this since fall of 2004. This is why I like the Saleen grill but it only fits in their front fascia. I have thought of taking a V6 grill; get another, damaged one, and fab in (carefully, with a serious glue) the center where the pony is. The thing is you cannot paint the grill as it will surely chip and be a maintenance nightmare. I may still try the V6 fabrication option yet. There is some issue with the GT grill and V6 grill not being an exact swap but I don't know th especifics of this yet. If someone has the "real detail" on this pls let me know. ...Jim
Actually there is a "paint" that more or less dies the plastic. When I had my stripes painted on my lower grill was in pretty bad shape frome stones. They prepped it with something and shot this black "paint" on it. It can't be scraped off. Pretty neet.

Hey guys. I was playing around a little bit with a pic I got out of the gallery, and I think this looks great! I removed the middle driving lights in the grill, removed the pony emblem, and added a cobra emblem ala GT500. Is there a way to get a mustang GT without the center headlights, and to cleanly remove the center pony emblem from the grill so it is all black like this?

Wow, can't be scraped off? What the heck is it? So your lower grill is painted? Could you find out what it was prepped and painted with? Could be onto something new here...
Especially if I fab a V6 grill to eliminate the pony, might need to paint it (was figuring I'd have to fab so no seam or work was visible w/o paint.... that's tricky) ...not even sure it's doable with the slight curve in the grill are where the pony is; and I need a junk grill to pull this off. ...sure would be unique, man!!!! let me know what you can find out... thanks, Jim

Ha! I can't help but find it ironic that GT owners are thinking of swapping out for the V6 grille after so many of us have gone the reverse route! Here's what I can tell you from my experience:

The GT grille is larger than the V6 version -- approximately 1/4" taller and 1/2" wider. May not sound like a big difference but I sure noticed when I tried to jam the GT grille into my V6! I think making the opposite switch would be easier but you might have a little gap between the grille and your bumper.

If you're looking for a plain black grille that doesn't have the pony, check out street scene's V6 "Speed Grilles." They come in a few different finishes (painted black, black chrome, silver chrome) without any emblems and I believe they are a direct replacement for the V6 grille -- although they may attach onto the V6 grille; I can't recall.

I ended up getting a street scene grille that includes the fog light openings, but the finish is the same. Attached is the best picture I have -- sorry it's crappy, but at least you can see the material and the texture of the grille. It's formed out of light, almost meshlike metal and doesn't look or feel as durable as the OEM grille, but I've had it on for a couple months with no problems.

(btw, I added the emblem myself -- as I said, Street Scene grilles come bare)

Hope this helps!
Tim

Hmmmm.... don't like that size difference. Now I have to fab in the triangular sections for the lights and the pony on a spare GT grill. UGH!!! may still be doable, might need a couple doner grills to pull that off; If we knew who made the Saleen grill they could make an OEM fit grill easily with the Saleen profile. Call Saleen and ask them who mfg their grill? think they'd tell ya?

why don't we just get a petition going to street scene, or one of the other 1000 companys that make aftermarket stang stuff. We can start the petition with the pic that I posted on the top of this thread, and ask that the new aftermarket grill look exactly like the OE piece for the GT - same material, same mesh pattern - only with the horse and foglight holes filled in. Make an optional offset or even interchangeable badges (cobra, pony, GT, etc.) and you have a smash. I'm sure if enough people post in the pettition one of these companys will pick it up. If we get this forum, stangnet, mustang world, and some other forums fitted up with the pettition, we would be in there. Just somebody give me a royalty or something for thinking this up.
