Default looking for help with boost/air-fuel gauge

I am installing my gauges this weekend to prepare for my s/c. I got the two gauge a-pillar with the autometer gauges. I was wondering if anyone had any tips on where to connect the lighting so it only comes on with my lights. I am trying not to tear apart my dash too much. Is it better to install another switch or try to wire them to the headlights themselves

Matto,
I assume you are asking about the illumination wire. You'll want to run the wires to a place where you can access the "panel dim" circuit. I am looking at my service manual and it is the Orange Wire with Red Stripe. You can access it at the Smart Junction Box (fuse panel) on the passenger side or the actual dimmer switch on the driver's side.
Hope this helps!
-Cheers

thanks....it helps a lot. I was hoping I wouldn't have to just do the whole trial and error method...

Glad to help. Let us know how it goes. I have to install my gauges yet but am waiting for my Wide-Band A/F meter to be released from Autometer and Shipped by Jeg's. Uggg, I hate waiting for new toys!

Hey Matto,
Did you get your boost gauge hooked up? I'm installing a boost guage, also. I was wondering about the illumination wire. Is it in fact the Orange with Red stripe wire?

I did get my guages hooked up. Sorry about the error though! It is NOT the orange and red. If you pull the headlight/dimmer switch panel from the dash, get behind it to the wires behind the dimmer. You need to hook the wire to the balck w/ white wire. Don't know if my wires got switched or if there is an error in the service manual but the orange w/ red did NOT work. HAS TO BE THE BLACK w/ WHITE!

EDIT- Come to think of it, the orange and red might work if your gauges have regular bulbs in them. Just looked mine up again and they have LED's, so that may be why they didn't work on the back end of the dimmer. But the black w/ white should work in either case!

-Cheers

No problem Scooter. I discovered that the orange/red wire didn't work. Through a little trial and error, I discovered that the black/white wire behind the dimmer switch works like a champ! Thanks.
