Why didn't Ford just make the fuel filler in the back of the car under the huge Mustang cap like the old cars???

I have never cared for the whole billit fuel door thing. But I have seen someone on another forum that had it painted t match the car and I must say it was an excellent "unpimp my ride" move. Blended nicely.
